Born into an Anglican military family in 1832, Agnes Jones grew up in Fahan in County Donegal in the North West of Ireland. By age fourteen, she had already developed a missionary zeal to help the sick and the poor, which led her to enrol as one of Florence Nightingale's first trainee nurses.
